Rustic Home Makeover

I have been working on my home with my husband trying to get a more rustic and inviting look and feel. We believe the house to be well over a hundred years old. The main house is approximately 40x40 and was built before indoor plumbing so there was an addition added for two baths and another bedroom sometime over the years.

Here is the house on move in day. We arrived the night before, slept on the floor and then started unloading the trailer the next morning. The trim and porch were painted a horrible fuchsia color.

I painted the front porch and trim white to match the house and painted the brick/block under the house beige. This was a start to tame the colors a little until I could paint the colors I wanted.

The first thing you'll notice is we painted the house and trim a new color. Next my husband and I took the screen and siding off the porch and put up four 4x4 post. We also took the lattice down and moved the 12'x 20' deck around back of the house.

We moved and modified the white fence and then made a rustic trellis. Before, everyone would park in front of the house so we made that a flower bed. I think it looks much better although we still have so much to do.

The new rustic railings were easy to make and helped transform the house into a much better looking and rustic feeling home.
I painted the old gutter with copper spray paint and I get compliments on our copper gutters all the time.(ha) How about those beautiful hanging baskets with the spider plants? They're fake! I'm still working on my green thumb.

I added a rustic door knocker and need to change the door knob and deadbolt too! Want to see more about plants?

The concrete walk was easy to do with a concrete mold. I have more walk to do before I'm finished.
My husband built the trellis and added the neat looking rustic knob
The deck was on the front right of the house with lattice railings. We moved it to the back for more privacy and for a place to sit and watch the kids playing.
We redid the roof and added a covered area for relaxing.
Getting closer to getting my rustic home. I want to screen the porch and do a lot more decorating to get more of a rustic feel.
The porch is coming together well. I think wicker, metal table, and rustic lamp add to the rustic feel I'm going for. I will share more rustic home decor ideas as I finish projects around my now rustic home.
